How did farming change culture and society in Mesopotamia?

By Felwa

Mesopotamians have discovered one of the best discoveries in the world, which is Farming. It has changed the world a lot. If farming wasn’t discovered who knows where we would be today or even if we would be alive today. Farming made a huge difference for Mesopotamians because they wouldn’t have to worry about being nomads and moving from place to place after running out of food. Farming has also helped us, if farming wasn’t discovered we would be nomads and have to worry about running out of food one day and dying.

How did farming develop in Mesopotamia?
Before Mesopotamians discovered farming they were nomads because they couldn’t grow food. They could only hunt animals and get berries and grains that they found around, once they had no more food in the area that they were staying at they would leave and go look for somewhere else to stay and find food. Farming was a very important discovery and it developed Mesopotamia because people could stay in one place and grow their food, if Mesopotamians didn’t discover farming and we’re still nomads, we would eventually run out of food to eat and animals to hunt so we would be dead. Through out history farming is one of the most important discoveries and farming is what is keeping us alive.

How can you connect farming to contemporary life?
In ancient Mesopotamia people had to farm to get their fruits, vegetables and grains. Life now a day, farmers still farm to get most of the food that we eat everyday, but the farmers do all the farming work, while we can just go to the grocery store and buy the food. But in ancient Mesopotamia the Mesopotamians had no grocery stores, that had to farm their own food and harvest their own food. Life in ancient Mesopotamia was harder that life today but we still farm like they did to get our food. Farming is just as an important discovery now a day than it was a long time age in ancient Mesopotamia.

We have made many new discoveries and inventions over time, and like farming, a car is an invention that helps many people in life, just like how farming helped many people. A car is a more of a present day invention than farming, but it helps people get to far or close places. Farming is of course a more important discovery, because it is how we get our food, but a car is very important too. Farming and a car are similar inventions because they are both very useful, and people use both farming and cars a lot, probably everyday. But farming and a car are different because farming gets you food, and a car get you to places. If we didn’t have farming we wouldn’t survive very long, but if we didn’t have cars we would still survive it would just take longer to get to far places and we would have to walk more. But if we didn’t have cars it would be good for the environment and air because of all the gas we use.

Through out history farming has made a big difference in society. We wouldn’t be this healthy today without farming and the world would have soon come to an end if farming wasn’t discovered, because people would eventually eat all the food on earth and animals so there would be nothing else to eat, so farming helped us survive and has extinct nomads. Farming is important to all of us, and we should be thankful.

Ambleside Scare

The train was just heartbeats away, “chugga-chugga-chugga,” we could hear it coming closer and closer by the second. I looked for my little brother but could not see him. We searched and searched but he was no where in site! It was a horrifying moment.

We could hear the voices of other children screaming and running towards the direction of the train. I couldn’t recognize my brother’s voice, nor could I see his face in the crowd. All of a sudden, a man sprints and starts yelling, he was racing as fast as his legs could move toward the train, realizing his kid is only two meters away from the train, where there was no gate or fence to separate that playground from the train tracks. After it came to their realization, every parent in the park started running towards the train looking for their child, bringing them to safety. It was terrifying.

It looked like a herd of elephants running towards their pray. I rushed toward the crowd bumping into everyone, I even crashed into a little girl. At this point nothing mattered to me except for finding my brother. All of a sudden, I hear my sister yelling, ” He’s here,” as I look over I see her carrying him gently in her arms. All of us are breathless from that crazy moment. We were all relieved to see him. As the train passes by we all gathered near the tracks and watched the train pass by. My brother’s eyes lit up when he finally got to see the train.

I chose to share this story because it was an intense and terrifying moment for my family and I, thinking that we could have lost our precious little baby. I have learned from this experience to be more responsible and think about what could happen if we are not careful. From this day forward, we’ve all promised one another to never take eyes of Thamer ( my little brother ) ever again.

Culture and environment of ancient Mesopotamia

The purpose of my map is to understand how the environment affected the culture and society of the early Mesopotamians and how they lived and discovered new things. It also shows what the land of early Mesopotamia looked like. From this map we learned how they evolved over time and how their style of life changed threw out the years.

For example when the Mesopotamians went mining and found minerals like gold, silver, bronze, and metal from what the Mesopotamians found they were able to make tools for hunting, building shelter and a sailboat or chariot for transportation, a chariot was like a carriage. As they travelled the passed by other bands of people who had different resources like for example if one band of people grew tomatoes and the other band of people grew apples they might want to trade. Trading was a way for all people to reach the resources that they really needed.

Farming was another example because instead of traveling from place to place for food they could just stay in one place and grow food, and whenever they needed more food, they could farm. This made there life much easier.

The early Mesopotamian people’s life evolved over time from all the new discoveries that they made, and still today people are asking new discoveries that might evolve our world over time. By:Felwa

The Right To Live In A Safe World

Protection from being physically harmed or made feel badly by what people say.

I think that this human right is very important because, it is good to feel safe and live in a world where no one physically harms you or says something to you to make you feel bad about yourself. I think that no one has the right to harm you or even touch you. No one deserves to get beaten up for no reason.

There are many parts in the world where people are saying things to make other people feel bad, and there are also many parts in the world where people are getting physically harmed for no reason. For the last few weeks we have been reading a novel called the “Breadwinner”. It is about a girl who is about 11 years old named Parvana, and she lives in Afghanistan where there is a lot of physical harm and people saying things to make you feel sad about yourself.

In this novel the Breadwinner Parvana’s Father gets arrested, so later on after a couple days Parvana and her mother go to the prison to visit Father and try to get him out of prison. Parvana and her Mother can’t take the bus because they are women and they weren’t accompanied by a man. After hours of walking to the prison they finally get there. Parvana’s mother pulled out a picture of Father she held it up and showed it to one of the Taliban that were standing inside the prison, Mother yelled ” Let my husband go.” She kept repeating and repeating ” Let my husband go” until the Taliban started beating up Parvana’s Mother.

Everyone deserves to live in a safe world. No one deserves to worry about getting physically harmed or feel bad about something someone said no matter where you are or how old you are.

How Am I Connected To Those in The Past

I am connected to those in the past because some of them are our ancestors and we learn from them. Also things like bloodline, genes, memories and religion. So last week Ms. Angle assigned us to do a project on a timeline from 2016 to about 20 years back. On one side we have our personal events on the other side we have world events, as I was searching up world events I learned some new things I didn’t even know about. This time line also helps us show how we are connected to those in the past.

My grandfather is from Saudi Arabia and my grandmother is from Italy, so I got to learn about these two different countries, and how they do things there. I also learned about their foods, cultures, religions and I also got to learn how speak both languages Arabic and Italian. These two cultures have affected me in many ways like the biggest thing that affected me from the Italian side is that we are very open minded to basically anything, and the biggest thing that affected me from the Arabic side is that we are generous, generosity is a very important thing in the Arabic culture. But something from both cultures that affected me is that we value family very much. And that is how it affected my life.

A world event that I think affected the present is google. Google was created in 1998, I think it affected the present a lot because, it made information more accessible to people all around the world. It’s also easier to find information about your favourite subject, place or person. But one the other hand, it made people dependent on it so they no longer need to remember or memorize information because they can just search it up. I choose Google as my event because it really changed people’s lives and made it much more efficient.

Everyone is connected to the past in different ways, many people are affected from different things. But our lives moves and that is how we create memories from the past.
